Bryant K. Riddle, our beloved husband, father,grandfather and great-grandfather, left our side January 10, 2020. Daddy, as we stood around circling you with our love, we could not know how deep and encompassing your loss would be. You had prepared so well all 86 years of your life for the day you would leave us and meet your God. We cared for and loved you as you bravely faced these last years of health challenges without complaint. The patience with which you lived your entire life served you well as you endured to the end. Thank you for waiting on us as long as you could. We love you. We will never stop needing or missing your kind, gentle and reassuring ways. You taught us how to be by how you lived. You were a man of very few words, quietly leading us by your example. Your sermons were never spoken but seen in action. Now it is up to us to live our lives in such a way that we will be with you again.
Bryant was born March 18, 1933 in Antimony, Utah to LaMawn and Amber Riddle, the fourth of six children. He grew up working on his family’s ranch raising beef and dairy cattle, hay and potatoes. His dream was to have his own ranch but after military service and some college, his need for employment led him to the power line industry where he worked as an operator building power lines all of his working career. It was while he was building power lines at Flaming Gorge Dam that he met Lana Belcher who worked at her family’s restaurant in Vernal, the 7-11 Café. Bryant took Lana home to Antimony for Thanksgiving to meet his family and while there, convinced her to go with him across the state line and marry him in Pioche, Nevada. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti Temple. Bryant kept and lived the sacred covenants he made with the Lord and his family all his life. Nothing was ever more important to him than faith and family.
Two daughters were born to Bryant and Lana as they moved from job to job throughout the West, at last settling in Orem, Utah, where Lana began teaching at the College of Nursing at BYU. With the girls raised, Bryant found a piece of land in Wallsburg where they built their home and shared the work on the little ranch of hay and horses, a few chickens, beef cows, burros and one milk cow.
In 1990 Bryant returned to school as he accompanied his little granddaughter, Jade, assisting her special needs as she navigated her way through life in a wheelchair, helping her on and off the bus, midday at school and field trips through grade school, junior and high school.
In 2010, Bryant and Lana served an LDS medical mission to the Philippines, Lana providing medical care at the Manila Mission Training Center whileBryant was being “grandpa” to the young missionaries from throughout Asia, giving warm hugs while pinning on name tags, gluing shoes back together and providing comfort and reassurance as they prepared to go out and serve the Lord.
Bryant is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lana B., daughters Kimberly Cook (Ralph) and Nari Trotter, grandchildren Corey (CB), Denver, Jade, Jasmine, Kyle and James, and sister Nina.
